Some older models of air conditioners are very noisy and can even keep you awake at night. This is a bad situation because if you are a light sleeper you may even be tempted to turn off your air conditioner just so you can sleep. But then you will cook all night long and not get a peaceful sleep anyway. When looking for a new air conditioner you can find models that are very quiet and operate with limited noise. Otherwise you can look into buying a wall mounted air conditioner that actually sits outside your window and therefore any noise from its function will not come into the room.
