Posted by Rhonda,

A house soffit is for the most part the house’s armpit. This would be if you were comparing the home to that of a human body. The house soffit is known to occupy a location that is similar in structure. This is actually an area that is on the underside of the overhang of the home. There are two different reasons for overhang. One is that it helps in protecting any siding for excessive weather. The other reason if because it makes a place that can be used for the house soffit. Though the armpit of the human body and the soffit seem to have functions that are quite similar only the armpit sweats. With an opening that is screen in the soffit it helps to get air flow to the attic.

If you do not know how to do the house soffit repair, let the professionals manage that for you. Usually, they will assess the damage and give you the costs. House soffits must be given importance so as not to have further damage to other parts adjacent to the house soffit.

To replace house soffits, make sure you have the right materials and the correct measurement of the soffit to be replaced. If you are not sure of doing it yourself, let a handyman do it for you. You don’t want to create further damage to your house.

House soffits can be made out of wood. As for ventilation you can use metal ventilating screens. There are now soffits made out of metal and vinyl which can match the house exterior. As mentioned in other comments, replacing soffits is easy, just be careful climbing up ladders though.

Most house soffit is unseen so it’s hard to know if the part is damaged by water. If left unnoticed for a long time, the damage might spread to the gutter costing you more repair money. Better check your house soffit all the time just to be sure that ir does not need replacing.

Yes, that is correct. soffit is more susceptible to weather damages usually from rain or snow. Animals can also damage house soffit. Even bees can damage a soffit if they happen to build a nest inside or behind the soffit. But homeowners need not to worry about that because a house soffit is not difficult to repair.

This is a nice read. I don’t know much about carpentry so it’s nice to know what a soffit means. It’s funny that it is being compared to an armpit, an armpit of a house. So if I got it correctly, the soffit is usually found under eaves of the house’s exterior, is that right?
