Posted by Ivonne,

My wife watched that movie about Tuscany a few months ago (what was it called, Under the Tuscan Sun, I think?) and ever since then, she’s been itching to redesign our house with a Tuscan look. The blinds we’ve had for over ten years are starting to show their age, so we’re thinking of replacing them with Tuscan window treatments. But the problem is, if we do that we’re going to have to redecorate in other ways so they don’t look out of place. I think my wife is planning to sandbag me with a complete renovation once the blinds are in, in order to make the house look finished.

I’m not sure if you wife is planning to “sandbag” you, but it sounds like she might have some ulterior motives here. I’d talk to her about it before you buy any window treatments, to make sure you know what you’re in for.

Have you checked on the internet to see what kind of deals you can find? We bought some stuff online and it was a heck of a lot cheaper than our local home center. Plus, the selection was much better.

Under the Tuscan Sun is right – I love that movie. It inspired me to do some redecorating around our house as well. Fortunately my husband pretty much lets me do what I want, as long as I stay out of his workshop.

Aren’t us wives a sneaky bunch? If I were you, I’d take the lead and just suggest doing a bigger renovation right off the bat. Your wife will love you for it, and you’ll probably get more say in what gets done ;-)

Tuscan window treatments can fit into lots of other decors. Even if you just add some accessories and stuff in the room itself to give it a Tuscan flair, there’s no need to change everything else in the house.

Dude, don’t let yourself get sandbagged :-)
If she does want to do a complete renovation after getting the windows done, just offer to renovate that room. The rest of the house can stay the way it is.
