The once dreaded back surgery has become much less invasive in recent years. There are some newer “minimally invasive” procedures using endoscopes. The surgeon inserts a small endoscope through a tiny incision. Using a microscopic camera, your physician can directly visualize the damage and repair it through the endoscope. Instead of cutting the muscles, your surgeon simply pushes them aside, which means there is less scarring after surgery. This is an exciting development because laser back surgery can be as effective as open back surgery, there are fewer complications, you’re in the hospital for a shorter time, and you recover faster. Indications of the need for back surgery may include having back pain for six months or longer that is not getting better with other treatments, weakness in your arms or legs, trouble grasping things or numbness and or tingling in your legs and feet.

No question, back surgery sucks, but there’s no question that advancements in medicine will make the surgery tolerable. Be prepared to be laid up in bed, but you will recover, and the pain wont last long.
Back surgery is no something that’s fun. No question about that. However if you have surgery today, the less invasive options can definitely make your life a little less painful. Today’s advances in laser back surgery make the procedure quite tolerable, not to mention it can cut the recover time in half.
I agree with your post. There’s no question that science has definitely progressed with laser back surgery. Just 10 years ago I had my first back surgery. The scars from my surgery will be on my back the rest of my life. If I had the same surgery last year, I would have no trouble wearing my bathing suit… nobody would have any idea I had surgery on my back.
