Posted by Lester,

Looking into getting the best motorized wheelchair is great for the seniors that I work with all the time. They all live on the grounds, but it is just not helpful for them to have a wheelchair if they can not get around on their own. I am looking into choosing mobility scooters and wheelchairs for them so all of them can get out and do things that they love to do. I want them all to be able to sit outside in the sun, and just have a good time being out of the house. I want them to have fun in their last years of life.

My dad uses his motorized wheelchair in the house as well as outdoors. He’s had a ramp fitted up to his house door so he can drive in and out easily. He’s had changes done inside the house so he can travel from room to room easily. It’s given him much more independence so he can do more of the things he wants to without someone needing to be with him all the time.

Motorized wheelchairs are so popular now there is a demand for even more features. Some of the very latest models are fitted with spring suspension so the driver can still be protected when traveling over rougher ground.

My mom’s motorized wheelchair has a joystick control and it’s made such a difference to her life. She was always a keen gardener and would spend hours in the garden planting and pruning. He motorized wheelchair has given her back some of the independence she lost when she lost the power of her legs. It’s great to see her wheeling about in the garden with a pair of pruning shears in her hand.

The motorized wheelchair my dad has is very easy to control. My dad’s quite frail now so can’t manage to get around on his own in a manual wheelchair. His motorized chair has a programmable joystick so he can manoever the chair very easily even with his lack of strength.

My mom’s motorized wheelchair is fitted with a device allowing the seatback to recline. This lets her raise her legs to a horizontal position which is great because she doesn’t get the same pressure sores on her legs that she got with her old wheelchair.

My dad loves his motorized wheelchair. It’s allowing him to get about on his own much more than he was ever able to do in his old manual chair. It’s great for me too as I don’t always have to be with him when he wants to go out. It’s taken a lot of stress out of our lives as he no longer feels frustrated about just doing what he wants to do.

Motorized wheelchairs are certainly a step up from using manual wheelchairs. In addition to being motorized for moving about many of them have additional features including allowing the seat and footrest to tilt up at an angle of about 45 degrees making them more comfortable for their drivers.

I think introducing motorized wheelchairs to your seniors is a great idea. There’s nothing like having your own independence and being able to enjoy the outdoors on your own. Having a motorized wheelchair will allow your seniors to continue to enjoy the things they love without being dependant upon someone having to push their regular wheelchair.
