Posted by Malena,

My son and his girlfriend went on vacation last week. You would have thought that he would be ready to take a break from his schoolwork. When he packed his bags, he got one of his Digital Writing Pads to take with him. They were going on a cruise and I really do not know why he took it with him. I really do not think he will have much time to do any schoolwork. The only thing I can think of is maybe he is going to take some notes about his vacation. They are planning on being gone for a week.

I’d like to see a follow up post after they get back from the cruise to see how it all went. So make a note on your writing pad to come back to this site and let us know how it went and if he did any homework.

Putting a digital writing pad in your luggage when going on a cruise is like putting taking a couple of good books with you. It’s good to have them along but it they may just stay in the suitcase. Nothing wrong here that I see.

What’s the big deal. I always have a pad with me which I use for both personal and work related activities and I do both whether I’m at work or on vacation. That’s the power of the digital writing pads if used correctly they open the door to enjoying all aspects of life.

Do you think it is realistic to think that your son will be doing homework on this cruise. The real question is whether his girlfriend is bringing her homework along also. I doubt it and it looks like a smoke screen to me.

Drawing is my passion and I use a pad to sketch on. Maybe your son has an artistic side to him and uses his writing pad to draw and his girlfriend is his muse. Wishful thinking perhaps but still worth thinking.

Going on a cruise with my pad proved to be a turning point for me. I sat on the deck one evening and began to write a letter to one of my sons which later turned into a short story and eventually a novel. I’ve written several since all on my pad all on a cruise. What a life.

I noticed that you said your son took one of his digital writing pads on the cruise. It sounds like he has more than one and that is an indication that he really has a grasp the power of this technology. Way to go.

I don’t think a lot of the people commenting on this post have a digital writing pad. They are a lot more useful than just to take notes in school. I hope your son has started to figure this out and that is why he is taking it on the cruise.

Not true my friend. The real skill is to compartmentalize. Be on vacation during vacation, be with your wife or girlfriend when you’re with her and at work when at work. It is a mistake to mix business with pleasure

Get a grip you guys. If your son can’t multitask a girlfriend and a bit of work on a cruise he had better learn and learn fast. Being able to do both well will help him more in the future than any other skill he aquires.

I would have to agree. I hope your son took his digital writing pad for show and that he is planning on devoting his time and energies toeards his girlfriend on the cruise. It’s just plain rude to do otherwise.

Whether you have a digital pad, a laptop or just some fancy telephone if your on vacation you oughta be on vacation. Ok if you use these technologies for pleasure but if you are having to do real work or schoolwork then do the work before or after the vacation not during.

I’m not in college but I have taken my girlfriend on a cruise. When we were packing I grabbed my digital pad to take along. My girlfriend saw me pack it and rapidly put the cabosh on me taking it. Later as we were sailing she asked me to remember something until we got back and I said I wished I had my pad to make a note to myself and she did too.

When my family and I go on vacation I also take along a digital writing pad but not  really for work. I like to keep a journal of our adventures and there is no better way that I’ve heard of than my pad.

I agree with the comment that it is real difficult to mix work and vacation. However I still always keep my digital pad with me just to keep notes or write down anything that I think of rather than depending on my memory until I return home.

I don’t know why he took his digital pad with him either. I’ve tried doing work on a cruise before and it was dang near impossible. It’s right up there with trying to work when the Broncos are playing. I’ve found it’s almost better to not plan on doing any work and just enjoy the vacation than have the pressure of work hanging over you.

I certainly hope this young man and his girlfriend are well on their way to a committed relationship. If they are then it is probably alright that they are going on a cruise together. And if they are then if he has schoolwork that needs to be completed a cruise could be a great vacation to both accomplish the schoolwork as well as work on their relationship.

Common now. If anyone thinks that a young man and lady going on a cruise for the first time are going to find time for homework needs a serious reality check. It doesn’t matter whether he takes a digital pad, a television or half the New York Yankee infield with him he ain’t going to use them.

I must agree with a couple of other comments here. It sounds like wishful thinking on your sons part. I applaud his apparent intentions and recognize his apparent reality. I would think that his intentions are the noblest.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to both go on a cruise and do homework at the same time. But then again wouldn’t it also be wonderful to make a living without working. It sounds like your son has taken his pad along for show.

I graduated from college a couple of years ago and have taken a couple of cruises with my fiance and have taken my pad with me on them all. Granted I didn’t use it much on the first one but have nonetheless always found it handy on every vacation I have taken.

Many think that digital writing pads are only used for note taking in school. But they have countless other applications. Perhaps your son plans to write you a letter about his cruise and save it digitally for you when he returns.

It sounds like your son takes his schooling as serious as he does his love life. If he has learned to balance them both then he has indeed learned a most valuable life lesson. If this is the case then I suppose he will be successful in all he does.

A weeks cruise with my boyfriend what a marvelous idea. If he would take me on one I wouldn’t care how many digital writing pads he brought along and I might even give him a little bit of time to use one – maybe.

I also use a digital pad for drawing. Perhaps even more than writing these days and I’ve found that a cruise provides a wonderful environment for inspiration and reflexion even if there are other distractions going on.

I assume your son is close to graduating from college soon and also that he has other interests besides schoolwork that a digital pad is useful for. If I was you I would be more concerned about him taking his girlfriend on a cruise rather than what he has taken with him.

Gosh I would have liked to take a weeks cruise with my girlfriend in college. And I dare say he probably won’t have time to use his writing pad but I appreciate his wanting to give the appearance that he might use it. You go boy!

When I first got my writing pad I only used it for taking notes in school. But the more I used it the more I used it for more than note taking. Now I use it for other writing activities more than I do for note taking, It is so handy I wouldn’t leave home without it.

I take my writing pad with me even on vacation also. I love to sketch and often when I relax I can grab my pad and doodle to my hearts content or jot a quick note to one of my children. So it is no suprise that your son took his also.

I think I understand what your son is doing. I carry my digital writing pad with me everywhere I go not to do work but to jot down inspirations which can come at anytime. It is a great tool for this.
