Being mobility impaired, or handicapped as some still call it can be a real pain when it comes to controlling your weight. You see excercise is pretty much impossible when you’re tied to a wheelchair, and inevitably the weight slowly creeps up on you, and next thing you know you’re not only wheelchair bound, but also obese! I did find out recently though that our local Lions club had bought a Mobilty Van, that had one of those vans that had a wheelchair ramp conversion, and it’s available for free transportation to things like the local swimming pool, so I should be able to do that for some excercise. Luckily our pool has one of those Stair Chair Lifts in the building so I’ll have no trouble navigating there.

The last few years I’ve seen a fairly rapid gain in my weight, along with a marked decrease in my mobility. So much so that I have a heck of a time getting into my favourite easy chair, and an even worse time getting out of the darn thing. Just yesterday we were down at the neighbours playing cribbage & Tom, who’s almost in worse shape than I am had no trouble getting out of his chair. Yo see his wife had done some research on the Internet for Lift Chairs and had splurged and got him one. After seeing how easy it was for Tom, I think I’m going to have to buy one of those things.

There are some childhood memories that adults think can’t be topped, and my grandmother’s waffles was one of them. She had this big, clumsy, scorched waffle maker with a frayed cord. It looked terrible, but the waffles were indescribable. It was worth the 40-mile drive as I got older just to eat her waffles. A cousin told me about his Toastmaster waffle maker, and said the waffles were as good as my grandmother’s. Yeah, sure. But, the memories were still fresh, so I visited him for a sample. He was right. All the happy memories that went with the taste of incredible waffles returned (minus the clumsy appliance with the frayed cord). In fact, this waffle maker had automatic temperature control, a non-stick finish, non-slip rubber feet. Those were extras, though. It gave me gigantic, round, plate-sized waffles, which might have even been better than grandma’s. Yum.

Oh, in the days of constant advertising assault by the television and FM, how I used to long for the good old efficient radio! The present day children cannot understand the joy of listening to radio programs. How we would wait the entire day just to be able to listen to our favorite songs or talk show! I was tired of FM radio in our car and would prefer total silence at times. The arrival of Terk satellite radio with antenna facility has made all the difference, and I am back to listening to my fold favorite numbers again. I am truly grateful for this new improvised version called satellite radio!

I often go to an internet café near our neighborhood. The thing that attracted me in this café is the arrangement of the white corner computer desks. They seem to be arranged in an order as if you are in your house. They are totally arranged in random order. It is really amusing. All I need to do is choose wherever that suits me. I can either sit on the floor while working on my laptop on one of those desks or sit on a make-shift sofa in a small cubicle. I always feel relaxed whenever I am in this café. I will surely come back every day and try another sitting position.

There are many people who just cannot do any work in the morning if they have not had their first cup of steaming coffee. I am surely one of them because my first cup of coffee acts as a stimulant and only after that, can I really start doing something useful. As far as I am concerned, without my first cup of coffee made from the gourmet coffee maker, I do not start my early morning exercise too. My family members are so used to my habit that they do not disturb me in the mornings until I have had my first cup of steaming coffee.

I am a gizmo-friendly person and I must try every new thing that makes its appearance in the market. I enjoy replacing the old ones with the new ones whenever I can, provided the new looks and performs better than the old one. Somehow, I have conventional thoughts where cooking is concerned. I have never gone in for an electric and have always managed with a gas range, as I am not an avid baker per se. But, now that I have learnt some new dishes which require baking, I am wondering if I should go for a double oven Maytag Gemini electric range which looks cute and I am told it is really efficient.
