Learn To Compost At Home

Posted by Michell,

When you want to get into How To Composting, the best way to learn is by buying the books from the home improvement centers first. Lots of people do it and probably do not even realize that it is called composting. When you save the scraps from your food in containers and then throw them out in your garden so that it absorbs into the soil, you are actually composting. The benefits to building a vermicomposting bin far out weigh the benefits of buying fertilizer out of the store. Some do it out of need while others do it as a labor of love.

Loam and Bamboo Stalks

Posted by Yoko,

Fortunately there is a simple way to create loam without having to change the proportion of sand or clay in your soil and that is add organic matter.  Usually organic matter is added in the form of humus, which is plant or animal substances that have been partly or fully decomposed by the action of microscopic soil organisms, chiefly fungi and bacteria.  Most soil already contains some humus, the result of accumulation from plants and animals that have lived and died there over the years.  This is why the topsoil level is dark, whereas the subsoil, which does not contain organic matter is light in color.  Check out bamboo stalks for your patio.

About vinyl storage sheds

Posted by Marianne,

If you are lazy person and don’t want to maintain your sheds every year, I recommend you vinyl storage sheds. They are very easy to maintain. You don’t paint them every year like wooden sheds. If they are dirty, just use water to wash them. Moreover vinyl sheds will keep the weather away.  When you spend money on tools, you won’t want them rust or rot. Vinyl sheds are the best choice, you won’t worry about they have leaking problem, molding problem or something else that can spend much your money. And compared with other garden sheds, they are very light and easy to build up.

The eye catching area of any garden is the perennial border with the flowering plants that run in a broad swath along a fence, a wall, a walk or edge of the lawn.  Choose an area that has good drainage, light and space.  An unshaded southern or southeastern  exposure is deal because most perennials like lots of sun. A site measuring 4 feet by 12 feet is appropriate and is enough space to allow you to mass plants for effective displays of color, but not so large as to be unmanageable.  The perennial border is the mainstay of the garden.  Use a patio mister to stay cool on your patio this summer.

Walkway Landscaping Ideas

Posted by Hanna,

When you are planning the landscaping of your patio and walkways, your choice of materials will make a huge difference. It takes not only plants and trees, but also accessories, structures and pavings to complete the essential elements that enhance your total landscaping. Several different materials are available for use on pathways and patios.

Your budget will play a major part in what you choose, but remember also to choose a style that fits in with your total landscape plan. Paving stones, bricks, stone tiles, stepping stones and stamped concrete are among the more expensive materials. You can use different materials for walkway landscaping ideas than patios, and this can lower costs considerably.

Raised Veg Beds

Posted by Shirley,

Raised veg beds are becoming more and more popular throughout the world and when you look at the advantages they offer you can easily see why. My dad is 80 and has a huge backyard which he gardens in the conventional way. He digs it in the spring using a gas powered tiller and incorporates plenty of well rotted farmyard manure as the food source for his plants.

He grows his crops in rows, weeds them, harvests them, eats them and in the fall he lets his garden rest until the spring, (apart from overwintering crops), when it all starts again. This system works and works well and has done for hundreds of years but it is inefficient and labor intensive. The new kid on the block so to speak is gardening in raised beds. Truth be told there is nothing new in it.

Greenhouse Supplies

Posted by Krysten,

A greenhouse is basically a very simple thing. By means of glass or plastic the sun’s energy is trapped in the air and soil so that an enclosed space is warmed allowing plants to grow optimally. While the principle of the thing is very simply the devil, as they say, is in the detail. To get the most out of your greenhouse supplies to make it an efficient system. Your aim is create in an artifical environment the best growing conditions for plants that would not normally thrive in northern latitudes or at high altitude. Your plants need warmth and humidity, but they also need ventilation because without a good air flow disease can result.

I have horse and she’s more like a member of the family than anything else. When she’s out grazing I wanted to be sure that she’d be safe and wouldn’t accidentally wander off and get herself hurt. That’s why I looked into getting a Vinyl Horse Fence. The vinyl fencing was strong enough to keep her in an area where I knew she’d be safe and yet decorative enough that it wasn’t an eye sore when you were driving by. The split rail fencing that I purchased is the best investment I’ve ever made. My horse can graze safely and the exterior of my house still reflects my overall style.

I live in quite a small house and the garden is pretty small as well, and therefore whenever I come to choose anything for either the House or the garden I really need to take my time and do some research so that I know or I will not buy something that is too big. Last year I decided to redesign my garden and as part of my plans I thought I would buy a greenhouse. At first I did some research online, and then I took advice from my friends who told me that one of the best things I can do is take a look at some of the various kinds of Mini Greenhouse Kits that are now available on the market. I found some really nice ones and I am really glad I decided to take a look at this particular style.

Finding the right style

Posted by Erna,

I have a really nice garden and a few months ago I decided that I wanted to do something special and change the way the garden looked, including having a total redesign of every part of the land. As part of the redesign I decided that I wanted to build a really nice greenhouse, so I did a lot of research and looked at the various Greenhouse Styles in order that I would be able to find the one that fit it in exactly with my new design. I spent several weeks looking at various style in the end and a really nice one that is really quite big and will enable me to do lots of things with it. Now that I have it in my mind exactly what I want I just need to buy and employ someone to build it properly. Then I would be able to look forward to the completion of my garden.

ME AND MY PURPLE MARTIN BIRD HOUSE

Posted by Yon,

Several species of birds visit our garden regularly but I chose to put up a purple martin bird house because there is something in these birds that fascinate me. I love the way they make their throaty vocalizations especially in the morning as I wake up. I also find these creatures very diligent in looking after their young.  I just have to watch out for their nesting site competitors like starling and house sparrows because they tend to drive away the poor purple martins and destroy their nestlings. Quite a task for me but I can handle it well though.

The Mower Would Not Start

My husband was out working in the back yard the other day doing his normal yard maintenance.  I came out to help with some of the trimming when he went to get the mower to cut the grass.  When he tried to start it he could not get it to work. He had just put gas in it so that was not the problem.  He tried for more than thirty minutes to get it started to no avail. He told me that he needed to go down the the place that sells Lawnmowers and see if they had the right mower parts. He thought it might be a problem with the carburetor.

I believe that you really should take professional advice before you buy anything that costs quite a bit of money, and this is certainly true when it comes to installing new fencing in the garden or yard. Last year I decided to completely refurbish the fence in my garden, and I spoke to three separate fencing contractors in order to make sure I got the best advice possible. After taking a load of advice I came to the conclusion that Bamboo Fencing would be just right for the property, because it would add an Oriental touch, and also gave me a nice amount of privacy without being overbearing.
